The Power of Persistence: Your Harvest Will Come!

If you’ve followed me for any length of time, you might have heard me talk about my farm. I have always loved being outdoors. Being in God’s creation and taking part in the miracle of creation is just so rejuvenating to me. It’s amazing to me that I can take a seed, place it in the ground, and watch as God transforms that seed into a thriving plant.

As a farmer, I know that what I reap, I will sow. In other words, I don’t expect to yield corn if I’m planting tomato seeds. Similarly, I know that the harvest requires patience. The season that I plant in is not the season that I will reap my harvest. That’s where the power of persistence comes in. I know that I must be diligent in sowing at the right time, in the right place. Likewise, I must be diligent in nurturing the seeds by weeding and watering them regularly.

In the world of business, the principle of sowing and reaping is not just a biblical concept; it’s a fundamental truth that transcends industries and time periods. Just as I diligently tend to my fields, preparing the soil, planting the seeds, and nurturing the crops, you must carefully cultivate your enterprise to yield a bountiful harvest.

“Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful individuals with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.” – Ray Kroc

Patience and Persistence

One of the keys that business owners often miss is the importance of patience and persistence. The season in which you plant, is not the season in which you will harvest. Sadly, I encounter so many who just give up too soon. Friends, I get it. I went through a season in my own entrepreneurial journey where the struggle didn’t seem to be producing results. I questioned whether it was even what I was supposed to be doing.

You see, when I entered the financial services industry, I went to work for a company that closed three months later. I then decided to go out on my own. This was one of the toughest seasons of my life. My family suffered through moving into a double-wide trailer on a red clay lot with a goat that was eating the side of the house. I didn’t know how I was going to feed them. However, I saw the vision. Therefore, I sowed the seeds of business, and I was diligent in my work. More than 10 years later, I made an 8-figure exit.

Just as a farmer must wait for the right season to reap his harvest, business owners must be patient and persistent in their efforts, knowing that their hard work will eventually pay off. Through the power of persistence, I eventually yielded a harvest well beyond what was sown. Folks, that’s the amazing part of it all.

Reaping a Greater Reward

If I plant a kernel of corn, in due time, that single kernel can yield hundreds—if not thousands—of kernels. As Jesus told His disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few.” There will be times when it feels like you’re the only one (and maybe you are, but that’s a different issue) working to reap a harvest in your business. It will be exhausting. It will be frustrating and you may want to give up.

However, if you can tap into the power of persistence, I submit to you that your efforts will produce a harvest far beyond what you have sown. Just as a single kernel of corn can yield a bountiful harvest, so can a small investment of time, money, and effort in your business. But why does it have to be so difficult? Why can’t the rewards be at least a little more immediate?

The Molding Power of Persistence

Friends, I can honestly say that, if I had received the level of success that I now have back when I first started my businesses, I wouldn’t have been prepared to handle it. I have no doubt that I would have squandered everything. Chances are, I would have been pretty unbearable to work with as well. You see, I was still spiritually and emotionally immature.

I challenge you to take a close look at yourself and compare to where you were 10 years ago. Are you better equipped to handle crises as they arise in your business and life? Do you hold certain things in greater importance than you did in your youth? I would almost guarantee the answer to both of those questions is a resounding, “Yes!”

You see, persistence is not just about achieving financial success; it’s about the journey of personal growth and development. Just as a potter molds clay into a vessel, so too does persistence mold us into the person we need to become to handle the blessings and challenges of the future. As we push through hard times and overcome obstacles, we become more resilient, less prone to giving up in the face of setbacks. As the old adage goes, “The strongest sailors are made in the roughest seas.”

Conclusion

Persistence is not just a quality of successful entrepreneurs; it’s a way of life. It’s about pushing through the hard times, learning from the challenges, and emerging stronger and more resilient on the other side. So, as you continue on your entrepreneurial journey, remember that your championship moment may be just around the corner. Embrace the challenges, seize the opportunities, and never lose sight of your dreams. With persistence, anything is possible.
