How Climate Resilient Are You?
Dear Subscriber First Name
I write this as hurricane Milton is approaching Florida, just a few weeks after hurricane Helene has devastated many counties on the East Coast, especially around Asheville where I have many friends and colleagues. We are all devastated by what’s happening, and it’s hard not to get anxious, to stay grounded, and to not let fear overtake our nervous system or despair flood our hearts.
As these human-caused climate events are getting fiercer, stronger, more lethal and more frequent, we need to strengthen our resilience.
Last Spring, I was part of a University of California class titled Climate Resilience. The class was a mix of videos by climate experts and in-person experiences led by faculty and mindfulness teachers. It was taught on eight of the ten UC campuses. I had the privilege of being part of the teaching team on the beautiful UC Santa Cruz campus. It will be taught again next Spring as it is being expanded to 10 campuses. I will be among UC Santa Cruz redwoods again.
This week on NPR, on Morning Edition, a short 6 minutes segment on the class was aired as part of the Special Series: Stress Less. You can listen to it below.
