Adelphi University Guide
Adelphi University
The Vibe
A tight-knit community that fosters academics and encourages students to be involved however they can.
What it Feels Like to Go Here
With our Panther mascot cheering us on and the small class sizes, you’ll be sure to make long-lasting connections here. The campus size makes the walks to classes more bearable and our Adelphi bunnies are sure to brighten up your day! Whether the sun blazes on you or there’s enough snow to make a snowman, Adelphi scenery never fails to amaze you.
Adelphi offers many fun activities from Broadway shows to hamster wheel racing. And who doesn’t love a good game of Bingo? No matter if you’re a Harry Potter geek or just want to add another Squishmallow to your collection, you can try your luck with the various Bingo events. While having the college experience is beneficial, students at Adelphi know that earning that degree remains a top priority. By becoming a student at Adelphi, you too can walk to class with the bunnies while working towards your goal!
Awesome Alumni
From the interesting studies of psychology to the wondrous works of the art students, Adelphi students strive to make their name in the field they are working in. A name that might ring a bell could be Bunny Hoest who graduated from Adelphi in 1953. Hoest became a talented cartoonist and the co-creator of “The Lockhorns” with her late husband Bill Hoest.
If you’re a big rap fan, you might’ve heard of rapper Chuck D who if you didn’t know, graduated from Adelphi in 1984 with a BFA in Graphic Design. He’s the co-founder of the hip-hop group “Public Enemy.” This group launched him into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and he has become a best-selling author with his book titled “Chuck D Presents This Day in Rap and Hip-Hop History.”
In the world of psychology, we have psychologist Paul Ekman who graduated in 1958. He became one of the world’s 100 most influential people by Time magazine and the pioneer of the study of emotions.
Last but not least, we have Adelphi’s most popular alumni, Jonathan Larson who graduated in 1982 with a BFA in acting. He was the playwright and composer of the popular Broadway show Rent which gained three Tony Awards and a Pulitzer Prize for Drama for his rock musical update of La Boheme.
Where We Hang
After a long day of studying at Swirbul Library, students love to wind down with a trip to the mall. Luckily, Adelphi lives close to Roosevelt Field Mall, New York’s second-largest mall. There, students can destress by eating Auntie Anne’s while aimlessly walking around and trying to find their next purchase. Adelphi also provides shuttle buses that take you directly to the train stations. From there, you can get to New York City and enjoy the city life of your dreams.
Students also regularly hang out at the University Center Dining Hall. It becomes a great place to meet up with friends while enjoying your favorite food! I also can’t talk about Adelphi without mentioning the iconic Nexus building. Even though it’s known as the home of nursing majors, people from all different types of majors come to utilize the huge space and stop by the PAWs Cafe for a little treat.
Q&A
How much are students partying?
“Usually people party 1-2 times a week,” Adelphi University freshman Jaxx Gallagher said.
What will you get in trouble for at your school?
“Talking too much in class, being disruptive, parking without an Adelphi sticker, skipping too many classes, and not keeping your GPA up,” Adelphi University freshman Cassidy Bedell said
How much sex are students having? How is safe sex encouraged on campus?
“Ok, so I think people have a lot of it on campus. I think safe sex is promoted on campus like the box of condoms put in the dorm halls by the RA. Many people took it and it was empty in less than 3 days. Also, the trucks from Plan Parenthood help promote it too.” Adelphi University freshman Celeste Arbelaez said.
What would you tell incoming freshmen about your school?
“It’s nothing like high school, really manage your time, and don’t be afraid to ask for help or else you will fall behind,” Adelphi University junior Caroline Zola said.
Why was Adelphi your school of choice?
“It gave me the most opportunity with the nursing program,” Adelphi University freshman Natasha Taskova said.

Getting In
Like many other schools, Adelphi University prides itself on a good GPA and SAT or ACT score. However, being actively involved in your school life helps in the long run when you apply. Adelphi just recently welcomed their class of 2027, their largest first-year class: 17,135 students applied in 2023. That number without a doubt will grow this year. But good grades aren’t exactly going to cut it. Try getting consistently involved in an extracurricular activity and see where it takes you. Don’t wait until the last minute, remember, you are competing with students all around the world, so show off what you got!
