Overshoot Days — Anne-Marie Brest

[ad_1]
Earth Overshoot Day marks the date when humanity’s demand for ecological resources and services in a given year exceeds what Earth can regenerate in that year. Earth Overshoot Day in 2024 is August 1st. This day has been oscillating between August 3 (2019 and 2021), August 2 (2023) and August 1 (2022, 2024), in the last few years with a marked difference in 2020 where it landed on August 16. What it means is that the world is using 170% of Earth resources or 1.7 Earths in a year, and has been doing so for decades.
